Swords

Swords have always fascinated me. Actually most medieval or "primitive" weapons interest me greatly, just that I have the most interest in swords among them. Swords in my opinion are both elegant and fatal (in the right hands), be it the conventional swords used in ancient battles or the fancy, elaborate fantasy swords you see in movies and anime. Which is why I decided to do a little research on swords and perhaps create my personal collection of self designed swords^^

Some google search results...
A simple naming of sword parts...

Detailed part of the sword hilt...
A very elegant and detailed handle...

A Japanese Katana. Long, slender and deadly...

Some of the more "ancient" swords reflecting different uses - slicing and thrusting.

I somehow find the slightly fat blade rather cute^^

Interesting pommel and crossguards...

More fantasy like...

Each sword reflects the era it was from. I'm not really an expert at this but I do know that they are shaped according to the style of fighting of the user. Just like curved blades are more for slicing, thin straight swords are more for thrusting (like those used in fencing). Will do more research in the future to find out more.

  1. the fifth pic is a little over ridden b/c of that last sword, if it were used, the blade would be to clumsy and it would have to much weight to use effectively. but all in all its pretty cool
