Description of Final Work

(Will be uploading image later)

This piece of work depicts a street that is both real and unreal, logical and illogical, for illusions create a conflicting image. It can be viewed in both directions simply by rotating it 180 degrees to find a whole new perspective on things. Tinged with a little humor, this piece of work aims to propel viewers to see the infinite possibilities in our world through new perspectives.

Coursework - Different Styles

Decided to do some quick updates...

So recently I've been looking up some architecture styles and found these:

At first I wanted to do just one style in my composition like those seen in my previous pictures on cities, then I figure "what the hell, let's just put them all together! That would be interesting!" It would be like a walk throughout the different eras and places, and would probably be the BEST place to explore new perspectives... So I've been incorperating all these ideas into my draft and will post it here as soon as my draft is completed.

Also, I've decided to make my final work a huge piece of work... In fact I was thinking of making it "life size" to give viewers the feel that they are actually INSIDE my poster... I've yet to try this idea out but I think it would be awesome if it were successful^^

Coursework - Cities

After all the research on different illusions and sketching individual illusions out, I realised I haven't the slightest clue as to how to piece them all together to form a composition!!! So I went on to search for cities, normal ones and fantasy ones since I need all the different variations to get my "best" perspective.

So here goes:

Coursework - Inspirations to Move On

This post is just going to be a chunk of words to pen down my current thoughts on the project...

1. Find a style of architecture which I like and add in A LOT of details
2. To create more weird buildings out of all the quacky illusions I've seen so far
3. Try mashing them all up in the weirdest possible combination to truly fulfill the theme "perspective"
4. Look up various "fantasy cities" and try to get different perspectives to drawing cities
5. Seriously consider changing from the original computer generated image to a pencil/colour pencil piece (please give your comments on this)

Reasons for change:
I can't use the computer as well as I'd hoped (I CANT SEEM TO GET WHAT I WANT!)
Maybe if I were given more time to work on the program, things might change...
Pencil/colour pencil seems to feel more familiar and easier to work with, not to mention I am able to create what I really want...

Illusion Ideas from a Storybook

Today, my art teacher showed me a book her daughter borrowed from her school library. Inside was exactly what my coursework was all about! Of course, I probably would not be doing it in a such a style but below are some of its pages...

Well, I guess it does give me loads of inspiration as to how to combine all the scattered ideas together...

Coursework - Perspectives

Ever since I started exploring new ideas on perspective, I found many interesting pictures. It's just so amazing what people can think of when it comes illusions, eye tricks etc.

First up, by Escher... (I'll just post some of the many but you get the idea^^)

Then I thought of just typing in "illusions" and found these:

Coursework - Artist Statement

My coursework will be based on the theme of perspective. It will be a computer generated poster using softwares like Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. If possible, I would try to animate it into a video.

Background:
Perspective is a very subjective matter. Different perspectives from different people usually gives us different views on things. Inspired by an Anime - Kara no Kyoukai, which contains several deep plots of human's perception of things, as well as the famous artist Escher who creates the impossible, I seek to explore the different perspectives in which we can view the world. What if the earth was square? Or if humans can defy gravity. With a little bit of imagination and creativity, I think this coursework will inspire many to think from a different angle and to view the world differently.

So in order to do that, I will be focusing more on creating a city or rather, part of a city, which may look pretty ordinary at first glance, but as you take a closer look, turns out to be quite "messed up". Tweaks here and there that makes you wonder if what you are seeing is real... as well as making the impossible seem possible... Viewers would surely spend some time analysing the poster^^ (maybe a lot since I believe no one can comprehend my composition at one glance)
